The Executive Secretary of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mallam Ahmed Moyosore Jaji, has called on residents of the council area to ensure that they pay their rates and dues regularly so that his administration can deliver dividends of democracy to them even at their doorsteps.
Jaji made this appeal on Friday, 16th January, 2015, during a sensitization programme for community leaders in the area which took place at the council secretariat at Oke Ira.
At the event, the Ojodu LCDA boss also called on residents who have not collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to do so without delay warning that those without PVCs will not be allowed to vote during the election.
“We are desirous of giving you the best and we are determined to ensure that you feel the impact of our administration positively in your homes.
“However inasmuch as we are very desirous of giving you the best, you must also assist us by ensuring prompt payment of rates and dues as this is the vehicle that will drive our developmental plans,” he told community and religious leaders present at the event.
He reminded those present that with dwindling revenue from the federation account, councils have to rely much on their internally generated revenue (IGR) to survive. “That is why we are appealing to you to assist us through prompt payment of your rates and dues,” he said.
On PVCs’ collection, Jaji advised residents not to relax until they collect theirs. “PVC is your instrument to vote during the coming election and it is the instrument you need to effect positive change at the national level while also ensuring that Lagos continues with governance of excellence,” he said.
He urged residents to cast their votes for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) saying the party is the only that has their interest at heart.
