Riot erupted in Ubommiri, Nworiubi Local Government Area of Imo State as residents protest high cost of petroleum products in the area. A petrol attendant was reportedly shot dead as the protest turned violent while several people were injured.
The incident which took place in the morning of Thursday, 14th January, 2016, saw motorists being diverted from the route as the protest turned bloody.
Residents told thegazellenews.com that petrol stations in the area have perfected a system of selling petrol in the night to black marketers who in turn sell at very high price to motorists during day time.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that petrol go for as much as N400 per litre in the area.
