Osun State Police Command on Thursday, August 21, 2014 docked two suspected ritualists for allegedly attempting to exhume corpse.
The accused persons: 26-year-old Morufu Olueju; and Alfa Ismaila Ibrahim, 42; and others at large conspired and carried out the crime in the wee hours of 26th July, 2014.
According to the police prosecutor, an Assistant Supritendent of Police, Mereti Wilson, Olueju and Ibrahim perpetrated the act on July 26th, 2014 at Ile-Alade, Odeomu in the Gbongan Magestarial District of the state.
The charge sheet obtained by our correspondent reads: “that you (accused persons) and others now at large on 26th July, 2014 did conspire among yourselves to commit misdemanor to wit misconduct with regard to corpses.”
The prosecutor then informed the Presiding Magistrate, Olusola Aluko that the accused persons have committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 517 and 242 (I) (B) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against them.
Their counsel, Mrs. Nnenna Ngwu prayed the court to grant her clients bail stressing that they are presumed innocent until proven contrary by the court.
Magistrate Aluko then granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties each in the same amount adding that they sureties are to present their tax clearance certificate. He adjourned the matter till September 30, 2014 for hearing.
