The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the sack of 180 civil servants and permanent secretaries as the evidence of the definition of stomach infrastructure. espoused by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s deceptive administration to dehumanize and celebrate poverty in the state.
Reacting to the summary sack of 180 civil servants in House of Assembly by the leader of the seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, Dele Olugbemi, acting on the instruction of the governor, APC state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said it is becoming clearer by the day that Governor Fayose had conned Ekiti workers into believing that he is their friend only to start making life miserable for them after securing their support.
Olatubosun noted that the affected staff were duly employed by the House of Assembly Service Commission with statutory approval since April 2014 with their conditions of service clearly stated, wondering how such workers could be summarily sacked by an announcement immediately after the New Year interdenominational service without following civil service rules.
He said Olugbemi did not have such powers to sack employees of the House of Assembly Service Commission even if he were to be the authentic Speaker of the House of Assembly describing the action as. ‘legislative rascality’ which is a corollary of executive rascality and recklessness by the Fayose administration.
“How can someone with genuine love of his people behave in a manner suggestive that he is an enemy of the people he professes to love? Fayose had in a similar manner reversed the appointments of eight permanent secretaries appointed by former Governor Kayode Fayemi while he also sacked another seven he perceived as loyal to the former governor. He had similarly annulled the promotion of about 5,000 civil servants barely three weeks after assuming office.
“800 peace corps members and over 300 staff of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency were also sacked while he stopped the N10, 000 monthly allowance to about 5,000 unemployed youths working as volunteers.
“The man who said he is friend of the vulnerable has also stopped the social security scheme of the former governor where 20,000 Ekiti elders were paid monthly stipend of N5,000 to keep body and soul together. To replace this life-lifting scheme, Fayose chose a seasonal stomach infrastructure scheme that features a handful of Ekiti people queuing up in the scorching sun for two congos of rice, a quarter of a litre of palm oil and a pigeon-sized fowl (oromodiye) for Christmas,” Olatubosun said.
The APC spokesman said it was clear that when Fayose was mouthing welfare for the people during campaign, he was clear in his thoughts to employ deceit to get the people’s votes after which he would make life difficult for them.
“He deceived Ekiti people that he won’t live in the new Government House because he can’t be living in a well-lt lodge while the rest Ekiti people live in the dark whereas he and his wife live in the edifice with 24-hour electricity supply while the entire state is always in darkness,” Olatubosun, said.
He added that instead of the governor empowering Ekiti contractors and artisans as he promised during campaigns, all the contracts awarded so far were given to foreigners and his blood brothers while artisans from Ibadan are engaged in various local jobs in the Government House instead of engaging Ekiti youths with requisite experience to do the jobs.
Olatubosun said it is regrettable that the gale of termination of appointments is moving to the local governments where over 700 workers have already been slated for sack.
