SENATOR Bukola Saraki has emerged winner of Kwara Central Senatorial ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in primaries conducted on Monday.
Also, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Razak Atunwa, has emerged the House of Representatives’ candidate of the APC for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency for next year’s general election.
Senator Saraki, former governor of the state and current representative of Kwara Central District at the National Assembly, won the ticket to contest the seat the second time with 1,540 votes.
Speaking after the electoral process, Senator Saraki described the victory as a demonstration of people’s confidence and trust in his leadership.
“I am grateful to all delegates for the support shown. Today’s massive support for me demonstrates the huge confidence you all have in my leadership and I promise to remain steadfast and committed to the development of this constituency, Kwara and Nigeria at large,” he said.
Saraki also charged the delegates to translate their support during the primaries into votes come February 2015, saying they should mobilise more support for APC across the grass roots and encouraged them to vote massively for the party.
Also, Atunwa, who is a sole candidate in the House of Representatives primaries, polled 1,545 votes to emerge as the standard-bearer of the party in the primaries supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and five-man team of the APC from the national headquarters, led by Chief H. M. Osha.
Speaking after the election, Chief Osha expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the primaries, urging other state chapters of the party to emulate Kwara State in electing their candidates.
In his acceptance speech, Atunwa, who eulogised virtues of the late Waziri of Ilorin, Dr Olusola Saraki, noted that people’s choice had always emerged in all elections held in the state in over four decades of the late Waziri’s sojourn in politics.
He praised Senator Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, leaders and other members of the APC in the state for their support and promised to continue to devote his life towards serving humanity.
Ogun APC to hold repeat Reps primaries today
OGUN State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will today hold repeat primaries to select candidates that will represent it in the 2015 general election for the House of Representatives in the three federal constituencies where the process was inconclusive during last Sunday’s statewide primaries.
In a statement by the chairman of the APC electoral committee saddled with the task of conducting National Assembly primaries in the state, Senator Adudu, the party noted that the affected federal constituencies were Abeokuta South, Ijebu Central (comprising Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu and Ijebu North-East local government areas) and Ijebu North ( consisting Waterside and Ijebu East local government areas).
The party further stated that the rescheduled primaries were aimed at creating a level playing field for all aspirants, giving qualified delegates opportunity to freely make their choice.
Ogun APC also appealed to all its members and the general public to cooperate with the organising committee in charge of the primaries, so that the image of the party, as a truly progressive platform, could further be projected.
