The Nigerian Rowing, Canoe and Sailing Federation has received lcommendation and support from the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare for sustained efforts at developing the sports and promoting the wellbeing of athletes.
Speaking at the 2021 Annual Admiral Porbeni Boat Race at the Jabi Lake, Abuja on Saturday, 30 January, 2021 the Minister said: “Let me sincerely commend the efforts of Admiral Porbeni for the sustainability of this annual race in the last couple of years. His efforts has not only improved our ratings as the number one country in Africa, it has ensured that we qualified for the Olympics and Paralympics in Para-canoeing and Para-rowing.
“I congratulate you and the athletes and urge you to use this event as a springboard for the other qualifiers. Be rest assured of the Ministry’s commitment and support to actualize the dreams of our athletes to win laurels for our fatherland”.
The Minister further said, “I’m most encouraged by your zeal and commitment towards lthe sustainability of this competition. This should motivate other Federations to key into the philosophy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
“Since sports development cannot take place without competition, no atheletes can excel without proper motivation and welfare. You cannot let your sails down or allow your boat of success drift away”.
He charged the athletes to exhibit high standard in line with International practice and also obey the Covid-19 protocols.
Thirteen states, two clubs and few individuals are taking part in the two-day event with states presenting only six participants for each event.
