The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to uphold the re-election of Senator (Dr) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah as Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, reports The Gazelle News.com.
The election was held virtually on 2 August, 2020.
The ministry came out with the position after a meeting with both parties and other stakeholders with the Minister, Sunday Dare in attendance.
In a letter to the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnck, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Sports Ministry, Gabriel Aduda, the Ministry advised the NFF to return back to status quo, noting that state FA elections are purely internal affairs which only their congresses can mediate whenever there is any dispute.
It is only where state congresses cannot resolve such dispute that the NFF Election Committee can intervene according to the NFF Statutes.
The letter by the Ministry in possession of Thegazellenews.com dated Thursday, 15 October, 2020 raised about five points why the Anambra FA election should be upheld.
Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had after the virtual election of the Anambra FA cancelled the election and set up a caretaker committee which was illegal and against the statutes of the Federation.
