In their desperate bid to impose newly recruited member, Jimi Agbaje, as the governorship canddidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, former National Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; and ex-Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; lied to the Lagos State leadership of the party that President Goodluck Jonathat has endorsed Agbaje for the party’s ticket.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that both George and Ogunlewe told members of the executive council of PDP in Lagos State that they have taken Jimi Agbaje to Jonathan in Aso Rock and that he has endorsed his candidacy, saying there might not be any need for governorship primary in the state.
“Agbaje will be our candidate in the 2015 governorship election in Lagos State. We have taken him to Jonathan and he has fully endorsed him,” Bode George was quoted to have informed the executive council members in his usual authoritative manner at the meeting.
However, the bubble burst for both George and Ogunlewe when further enquiry at Aso Rock revealed that the duo was lying to get their way. Thegazellenews.com learnt exclusively that indeed Bode George and Ogunlewe went to Aso Rock with Agbaje for a meeting with Jonathan.
At the meeting, they informed the President that it is only Agbaje who has the political structure, personality and financial muscle to take over Lagos from their arch enemy, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This medium learnt further that at the meeting, Jonathan in his usual seemingly meek posture, listened attentively to each speaker. Jimi Agbaje on his part allegedly demanded for the party’s governorship ticket without going through the primary to which he received the backing of George and Ogunlewe.
However, Jonathan surprised them by insisting that every aspirant of the party at all levels will go through the primary to be organised by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and that he was not to threat any aspirant as sacred cow.
According to investigation by thegazellenews.com, Jonathan told George, Ogunlewe and Agbaje point blank that the latter will go through primary but assured that the party leadership will give all aspirants level playing ground to test their popularity among members.
However, it was learnt that Jonathan assured Agbaje that if he fails at the primary he would be given opportunity of either becoming a minister or nominate somebody for a ministerial job.
Despite the President’s statement and assurances, George and Ogunlewe came back to Lagos and lied that Jonathan has endorsed Agbaje for the party ticket.
The party leadership haven learnt of the truth proceedings at the meeting told Agbaje when he came for his maiden visit to the party state secretariat at Adekunle Fajuyi Street, GRA, Ikeja, that he would go through the party primary if he wants to pick the party’s ticket.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that the PDP Chairman in the state, Olatunji Shelle, even have to go through the process of swearing with the Holy Bible to drive home his point that Agbaje will go through the primary and test his popularity among party members.
