An auto technician, Raymond Udema, who allegedly stabbed a customer with a broken bottle over money, was on Monday, 17th August, 2015 in Lagos charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Udema, 52, a resident of 48, Idimu Road, Egbeda, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for breach of peace and assault.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 20 at Orilope Street, Egbeda.
“The accused stabbed the complainant, Mr Dave Oludapo, with a broken bottle on his head following a quarrel over N54, 000.
“He stabbed the complainant because the man demanded for a refund of N54, 000 which the accused collected for the repair of his car’s air conditioner.
“The air conditioner only worked for 20 minutes and stopped,’’ he said.
Olatunde said the accused failed to refund the money in spite of pleas.
“The accused became angry, grabbed the complainant, tore his shirt and picked a broken bottle to stab him.’’
The offences, Olatunde noted, contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Section 166 provides three months or N15, 000 fine or both, while Section 171 prescribes a three-year jail term.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun, adjourned the case to Sept. 17 for mention. (NAN)
