A trailer ladden with goods on Wednesday, 30th December,2015 rammed into fleet of vehicles plying Oke-Fia, along Ilobu road in Osogbo crushing an aged woman to death while scores were severely injured.
Eyewitnesses’ account revealed that the trailer driver had lost control of the vehicle owing to break failure while trying to climb the hilly part of the road at Old Nepa junction before it rammed into other vehicles behind.
One of the eyewitnesses, a driver who simply identified himself as Waheed told our correspondent that the tragic incident occurred around 1:30pm.
According to Waheed, when other drivers saw that the trailer could no longer move forward, they started reversing with a view to escape being crushed by the trailer.
The eyewitness said that the trailer reversed with speed and rammed on other vehicles while some occupants of the affected vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries.
It was gathered that one of the passengers whose identity is yet to be known, while trying to escape had jumped out of a mini commercial bus popularly called “korope” but she was not lucky as the trailer crushed her head.
An eye witness said the victim’s brain got smashed and died on the spot.
Investigation revealed that some vehicles were severely damaged by the trailer.
A team of Police Detectives who had stormed the scene of the accident less than thirty minutes after towed the trailer and other affected vehicles to the Police station at Estate.
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Folasade Odoro, on the telephone, she confirmed the development.
Odoro said one person died and the corpse had been deposited at a morgue by the police.
