The newsroom of the Daily Telegraph is rocking with fear and apprehension with the recent sack of about 15 senior staff of the national daily by the owner, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu.
Thegazellenews.com learnt exclusively that the ex-Governor of Abia wielded the big stick on Monday, 30th June, 2014 after a meeting with the staff of the newspaper.
This medium learnt that the sacked senior staff led by hitherto Deputy Editor of the daily newspaper, Ike Abonyi, cut across the editorial and administrative cadre.
Thegazellenews.com learnt further that the decision by Kalu to wield the big stick came as a result of the power tussle in the newspaper with the Abonyi group allegedly scheming to take over the running of the newspaper from the Managing Director, Gabriel Akinadewo.
It was learnt that Kalu was inundated with several text messages from the later group telling him tales about the alleged ‘sins’ of Akinadewo.
However, realising that the allegations against the Telegraph MD were unfounded, the newspaper owner decided to wield the big stick to ensure a united newsroom.
Among those allegedly sacked were the internal auditor of the newspaper and the circulation manager.
