The Police have arrested a 17-year-old among other suspects for alleged kidnapping.
A statement from the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police said the suspect, Abdullahi Bashir, alongside his gang members were arrested for kidnapping happening around Kuje, Kwali and Abaji axis of Abuja.
The other suspects are Mohammed Umar, 22, Mohammed Abdulsalam, 18; Abdulrasak Ibrahim, 20; Ibrahim Dogosika, 20; and Idris Ori, 30.
Also arrested for kidnapping are Friday Taiye 22; Abdullahi Ibrahim, 30; Garba Abubakar, 25, and Abdullahi Mohammed, 35.
Bala Ciroma, the FCT Commissioner of Police, said in the statement that the arrests were sequel to the reported kidnapping at Asokoro, on September 14.
He further stated that 23-year-old Saadu Abubakar was apprehended following the incident. “The suspect”, Ciroma said, “was arrested around Apo after the phone number used for the criminal act was traced to him.”
Also arrested and paraded by the Police was one Opoma Terry, 24, who allegedly send threatening messages to people.
The suspect was said to be in the habit of threatening to assassinate his targets should they fail to pay money demanded by him into designated bank accounts.
A spike in crime around the Abuja highway and its environs has led to joint operations by security agencies.
Ciroma added that the efforts had been to yield fruits.
