The Niger East supplementary by-election was characterized by voter’s apathy and allegations of voters’ inducement as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbayi maintained the lead as at the time of filing this report.
The result of five local government areas out of the six where the supplementary election took place in 21 polling units cutting across the area has been announced with the PDP still leading.
The result announced revealed that in the supplementary elections in Rafi , APC scored 294 votes, PDP 504 , APGA 23 AND SDP 6. In Paikoro LGA, APC 429 votes, PDP 245, APGA 12, and SDP no vote. In Munya LGA, APC 274 votes, PDP 420, APGA 12 and SDP 1 vote.
Also in the result of the supplementary election,Bosso LGA APC has 209 votes , PDP 78, APGA 3 and SDP no vote while in Chanchaga, APC scored 17 as against PDP 41 while APGA and SDP have no vote.
While the result of Shiroro LGA with the highest number of polling units for the supplementary election was been awaited as at the time of filing this report , LEADERSHIP Sunday observed that less than 5000 of the total voters of 13, 534 in the units the elections took place, actually came out to vote.
The voters apathy, it was learnt, was not unconnected with the result of the last Saturday election that was not as expected whereas the PDP that scored 89, 640 votes as against APC 84,689 votes still maintaining the lead with additional 1,472 as against APC 1,223 votes in the supplementary election.
In an interview,the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Jonathan Vatsa alleged that there were sharing of money and clothes even at polling units by commissioners and top government officials drafted by the government to polling units.
