BEING A PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY HON JAMES ABIODUN FALEKE, LAGOS STATE COORDINATOR, BUHARI/OSINBAJO PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION TODAY, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 2015 AT THE CAMPAIGN OFFICE, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO WAY, IKEJA
Gentlemen of the press, I have the pleasure to have you around this morning at this important News Conference. The Lagos State Chapter of the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Organisation appreciates your partnership in our great nation’s journey to freedom.
This Organisation has invited you to let the world to know what the All Progressives Congress (APC) is doing in Lagos, Nigeria’s political capital, on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
We are MARCHING for CHANGE mainly to tell Nigerians and all lovers of progress across the world that Lagos is ready for the rescheduled elections on March 28 and April 11.
We all know the reason the elections were shifted from February 14 and 28 as explained by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Beyond the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the security chiefs said they could not guarantee the safety on Nigerians during the polls.
A considerable improvement has since been recorded on the distribution of the PVCs going by the regular update from INEC. Also, there are daily reports on the onslaught of troops in the troubled North Eastern region of the country. Going by the reports, the military is winning the battle. So, the stage is set for the polls and Nigerians feel the elections will go ahead as scheduled.
Reasons for the Freedom Walk
It is to showcase the readiness of Lagosians that the city is ready for the general elections. It will also give psychological reawakening to the electorate and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Lagos is ready for these elections.
It is also to say that Nigerians reject the return to the dark age of Temporary Voter Cards (TVC), there is no going back on the use of the Permanent Voter Cards as it is the practice in civilized countries and in the modern age.
We are also telling President Goodluck Jonathan that the huge amount of the tax payers being shared to curry political favour in the Southwest should have been channeled into profitable venture that could have benefited Nigerians generally. We are telling him, that he will not win the Southwest votes even if he relocates Aso Rock to the Southwest region.
The money he is sharing out to people is going into private pockets. Nigerians have made up their mind for change and that change will come on March 28. Nigerians are wiser. We will not be deceived again. Four years ago, he came to beg for our votes, we gave him but he abandoned us. He forgot then that the day of reckoning will come.
We are also telling the PDP that Musiliu Obanikoro is not the best Lagos can offer. The Senate will be doing a disservice to Nigerians generally and Lagosians particulary, by entertaining his nomination. He remained the only person in the meeting where the plan to rig the June 21, 2014 Ekiti governorship election was perfected who has refused to own up.
Nigerians deserves a forthright citizen to occupy a ministerial office and Lagos has many of such men of honour.
The Walk billed to begin by 7am at the Maryland Junction, will be taken through Ikorodu Road to the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, where leaders will address the party supporters. It will be guided, so it will not disrupt commercial and business activities on that route. All relevant agencies – Road Safety Commission (FRSC); Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA); the police and the Ministry of Health have been adequately mobilized to make the Freedom Walk hitch-free.
Security operatives have the mandate to offer protection to genuine party members and lovers of democracy, they also have the mandate to ensure that the fifth columnists, miscreants and provocateurs do not infiltrate the event, which primarily is been organized to herald peaceful conduct of the elections. As a matter of fact, white top is the dress code. And white symbolizes peace.
Party leaders will address the crowd of supporters at the terminus at the end of the Walk. APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; our presidential running mate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; governorship candidate of the APC in Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, all APC candidates in Lagos and other leading lights in the progressive fold will participate in the rally.
Lagosians, artisans, market men and women, civil society groups and all lovers of change in this country are expected to participate in the Freedom Walk.
This is the purpose for calling you this morning and we have no doubt in our mind that as partners in progress, you will do the needful. Thank you and God bless.
