Welfare For The Aged, Physically-challenged, My Priority, Says Rep Candidate, Yermi Alli

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Mushin Federal Constituency 1 in the coming general election, Aremo Taofeek Adeyemi Alli, has vowed to pursue vigorously bill that will institutionalised welfare programmes for the elderly citizens and the physically-challenged in the society.

Alli, in a chat with journalists in Lagos stated that there should be an institutionalised programmes to take care of the interest and welfare of the elderly citizens and the physically-challenged people.

“These are the vulnerable members of the society and we need to take good care of their interest and welfare to enhance the development of the society, hence it is going to be one of our priority programmes,” Alli, former Chairman of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, said.

Indeed, the former council boss knows what he was talking. During his reign as the council over 1,000 elderly citizens above 60 years of age were benefitting from his social welfare programme for the elderly.

“We started with 500 beneficiaries but the number was later increased and we did this for over nine years. Beneficiaries were picked irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation and the selection was done by members of the various community development associations (CDAs) in the council,” Alli said.

The former council boss also stated that he will work with likeminds to pursue a bill that will strengthen the local government structure in the country.

“We will also work towards institutionalising cooperative and thrift society with a view to creating opportunities for people to be self employed,” he said.
