Another socio-political organisation in Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, the Mainland Youths for Good Governance (MYGG) has indicated its intention to support the incumbent Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Honourable Olajide Jimoh to run for the House of Representatives seat to represent the constituency in the National Assembly.
Although he has not officially declared his intention to run, various youths organisations in Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency have been piling pressure on the young council boss to have a go at the seat with the latest being MYGG.
In a statement issued in Lagos and signed by Nurudeen Obanla and Sylvanus Chukwu, president and secretary respectively of the organisation, the youth organisation stated that Jimoh popularly called ‘JJ’ by his admirers and associates, has distinguished himself as a man committed to serving the people wherever he finds himself.
“This is a man who has distinguished himself as a lawmaker when he was a member of the state House of Assembly and is now doing wonders as a council chairman, we are very sure that this man will represent us well at the National Assembly,” the group added.
The organisation described Jimoh as a man who has taken grassroots governance to the next level in Yaba LCDA after a distinguished performance as a member of the state Assembly. “Go and look at the records at the state House of Assembly, you will find out that Jide Jimoh was one of the best lawmakers in the Assembly during his stay in the Assembly,” the group noted.
Realising the onus of picking candidates for election lies on the party, MYGG stated that it would present its case before the leadership of the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with detailed performance and achievements of Jimoh as a lawmaker and as a council chairman.
“We know and respect the leaders of the APC for their democratic ideals and we are sure that the party tickets will be given out on merit and on merit, Jide Jimoh deserves the ticket,” the group said.
However, as at the time of writing this report, Jimoh has not publicly declared his intention to run. One of his aides told thegazellenews.com that his boss is still preoccupied with delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Yaba LCDA.
“Oga is preoccupied with delivering more dividends of democracy to Yaba LCDA people. We are not talking of House of Representatives now. When we get to that bridge, we will know how to cross it. But we are appreciative of all those who have been offering their support one or the other,” the aide told our correspondent on phone.
