The campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the governorship election slated for August 9 in Osun state, southwest Nigeria, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has received a boost as a former member of the National Assembly, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke donated buses and motorcycles worth over N40 million to the organization.
The donated vehicles include five Hummer Toyota Buses, valued at N8 million each; about 30 motorcycles valued at N140,000 each; and an undisclosed lump sum of money to strengthen the PDP campaign and ease transportation of party members across Osun state.
While presenting the vehicles and other items to the organization, Oke thanked party supporters for their loyalty, undivided support and steadfastness to the party for the past three and half years that the party was relieved of governance in the state.
The ex-lawmaker urged them to arm themselves with their voter’s cards which he said are the potent weapon to effect their desired change of government.
Oke said: “the only way to show your true love to me and our party is to accept Otunba Iyiola Omisore as our party’s flag bearer and vote for him massively on August 9th 2014”.
He assured his admirers that “it is then your aspirations will be met because it is easier for me to empower you if our party is installed in Osun state”.
The state PDP chairman Alhaji Olaoluwa, while receiving the items, said “Hon Wole Oke’s gesture and magnanimity is not a surprise to me because it is inborn and innate with him to render assistance to the poor and the needy”.
Olaoluwa added that, “I remember when he was Chairman, Defense Committee in the House of Representatives, his hands of fellowship and distribution of the dividends of democracy had no boundary. A member representing Oriade/Obokun otherwise known as Ijesa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwole Oke positively touched the lives of not less than five persons each in all the 332 wards of Osun state between 2003 and 2011 apart from the valuable gifts in cash and kind he regularly gives to party leaders and members of the executive council in his constituency and senatorial districts and in fact, everywhere in Osun state including Olorunda Local Government when I was the executive chairman of the council.”
According to the state PPD boss, if all politicians were like Wole Oke, governance will be less cumbersome because it is on record that each time Oke contested and lost since 1991 during the SDP/NRC era either at primary or general elections levels, he was always the first to stretch his hands of fellowship to the other side.
He further said this was why he won massively in 2003 and 2007 despite being a candidate from the enclave of the national leader of AD, the late Cisero of Esa-Oke, Chief Bola Ige.
Olaoluwa, however, implored other party members to emulate Oke, who he said, does not believe in politics of do or die. Olaoluwa also observed that “he was the first to congratulate Otunba Omisore on April 5, 2014 after the latter was declared winner of the PDP primary”.
