Youth Empowerment, My Prime Focus – Oke

By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the House of Representatives from Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon. Oluwole Oke has said that empowerment of youths would be his prime focus if elected in the March 28th National Assembly election.

Oke who expressed resentment at the alarming rate of youth unemployment in the area lamented that high number of youths in the area are without jobs, thus roaming about the streets of the state.

Oke said during his campaign tour that he was worried that youths who were the leaders of tomorrow were either unemployed or grossly under-employed.

According to him, “no youth should be idle because at their age, they are the hub of the nation and the pillars upon which the nation’s structure is anchored.

Oke who was the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence between 2003 and 2011 explained that he had already put a programme in place which afforded youths the opportunity of having vocational training in tailoring, carpentry, driving and tiling among others.

He said he was ready to finance the training which was already on going at the Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), adding that devil is the hand-tool of an idle person.

The Esa-Oke born legislator who said that Late Chief Bola Ige was one of his role models warned the electorate to be careful of pseudo democrats who were all out to deceive them.

He said they should defend their votes by being extra vigilant on the day of election so that political brigands do not steal their votes.

“At the risk of sounding immodest, God has blessed me. He transformed me, and brought me to the limelight. As a son of poor peasant I grew up to be well educated and librated from poverty. Today, I have no fewer that 1,000 people working for me,” he said.

He continued “I know what poverty means and that is why I am all out to always be in the vanguard of those clamouring for total war against poverty. I am committed to programmes that will empower our youths and make life more meaningful to them.
