The Zakat and Sadakat Foundation has unveiled plans to wipe off tears and put smiles on the faces of some Nigerians in line with a prophetic tradition that encourages all Muslims to be their brother’s keeper, care and love one another with passion.
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Imam Abdullahi Shuaib said this while addressing the public during at a Zakat distribution ceremony which took place at the House of Chiefs, Governor’s Office, Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan, Oyo State on Saturday, 2nd January, 2016.
He stated that “We are aware that every one of us is in search of peace and happiness at this time when the country is plagued with the menace of terrorist attacks in the northeast and southeast regions, while kidnapping and vandalism of the NNPC pipelines are rampant in the southsouth region. The situation is quite not different in the southwest region of the country which is associated with food insecurity, youth unemployment and harsh economic situation that has worsened the living condition of an average Nigeria worker who earns less than $1 US Dollar per day.
“Even though we are not sure where that happiness will come from, I want to inform you that true happiness lies in the happiness of other people. When you give them their happiness, you will get your own happiness back.”
Imam Shuaib also said the foundation is determined and committed to deepen the welfare of the Nigerian people especially the poor, the needy and vulnerable amongst the people with the instrumentality of Zakat fund as the foundation has done in the last two months in Ebonyi, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Osun States.
He therefore made it known to the populace that N1.684 million was distributed as Zakat to 37 beneficiaries with 49 percent of the fund meant for economic empowerment, 23 percent for medical support, 22 percent for educational support and 6 percent for the welfare support of others, while items such as a motorcycle, washing machine, aluminium tools, a generator and two deep freezers were given out at the event.
The CEO then urged the beneficiaries of the Zakat fund to make the best use of what is being given to them with a view to improving their living conditions so that in the years ahead, they will be able to attain economic freedom and also be major contributors to the socio-economic development and growth of our beloved country.
