The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun), has demanded apology from ex-Governor of Imo State now Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rochas Okorocha for persistent insult on the North particularly on the floor of the Red Chamber.
The Governor stated this in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Zailani Bapla on Sunday, 8 December, 2019.
Muhammad decried the persistent insult being passed on the North and its people by Senator Okorocha warning him to desist from such henceforth.
Governor Matawalle was particularly livid with what he termed “the unguarded utterances on the educational status of the North by the Senator which has gone viral in the social media,” demanding apology from him to the people of the North.
The Governor noted that the North may be educationally behind other parts of the country, but it was insulting to portray the zone in the manner Senator Okorocha did.
Governor Matawalle further said the Northern Governors are especially concerned on the improvement of education sector.
“For instance in Zamfara State, we have earmarked 19% of the total budget for the 2020 fiscal year for the education sector.
“Apart from this, since his assumption of office, Governor Bello Muhammad has paid SSCE fees of students in the state to the tune of over N700 million and is sending 200 boys and girls to study medical sciences and engineering abroad. The state government is equally building 700 classroom blocks for the basic education sector and renovating over 300 in addition to improvement of teachers’ welfare,” the statement added.
The Governor then warned Senator Okorocha to be mindful of his unguarded statements that prick on people’s sentiments especially the North that brought him up.
