Niger Govt Vows On Commitment To Quality Road Projects, Reads Riot Act To Contractors

In order not to compromise quality and standard, the attention of the Contractor handling the rehabilitation of Maje-kwamba Road in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State has been drawn to certain anomalies.
The Infrastructure Monitoring Committee on inspection visited the site to notify the Contractor on some defects as identified by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.


The Governor intimated the Committee on the identified defects which have to do with side drains, stone pitching laying and the road shoulders, pointing out that they are not in consonance with the scope and specifications of the contract agreement.
Government is however satisfied with the asphalt laid, and urged the contractor to make necessary efforts towards addressing the anomalies.
The contract which is in segments is also expected to address ecological problems on the road.
The Niger State government says even as the rainy season has set in, it will not compromise quality and standard to get the job done.
The Project Manager handling the work, Mr Paul Ubong assured that they will correct the observations made as they are critical, explaining that the scope of their work includes stone-based work of 2 Kilometres, 2 Kilometres of drains construction and 4.3 squaremetres of stone pitching.
He noted that despite the unfavorable weather due to rains, work is progressing at the project site.
The Infrastructure Monitoring Committee is headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe who is also the Chief of Staff to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello while relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies are represented on the Committee.
