The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Monday, 22 December, 2025 hosted  famous Nigerian Afrobeats  sensation Asake and his mother at the ancient palace in Ile-Ife, describing the visit as a symbolic homecoming.

The visit was revealed in a video shared by the monarch on his official X handle on the night of Monday, 22 December, 2025  showing the singer in the company of palace chiefs and other dignitaries.

In a message accompanying the video, the Ooni referred to the artiste as his son and celebrated his global rise, noting that Ile-Ife played a key role in shaping his early years.

“‎Today fills my heart with deep joy as I welcome my son, Asake, back home to Ile-Ife. This sacred land is where he spent many of his formative years, moulded by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination.

“To return home after such a journey is a blessing, and I receive him with pride and open arms,” the monarch wrote.

During the visit, Asake performed his hit song ‘Lonely at the Top’ for the Ooni and other dignitaries present.

The traditional ruler also presented the singer with a piece of artwork from his personal collection.

Ogunwusi paid tribute to Asake’s mother, describing her as a steadfast pillar whose love and resilience contributed significantly to his success.

“‎Asake’s mother has been his steadfast pillar, and I am equally delighted to welcome her back home while extending my heartfelt gratitude to her for nurturing him with love, resilience, and strength to reach this remarkable stage of life,” he said,  just as he also praised Asake’s management team, led by his manager, Lala, for their loyalty and dedication, which he said reflects the Yoruba value of Omoluabi.

“‎Significantly, I pay special tribute to Lala and the entire crew who stood faithfully by my son; your dedication reflects the true spirit of Omoluabi,” the monarch added.

The Ooni further acknowledged the role of Obafemi Awolowo University in nurturing the artiste, thanking the institution and Professor Toyin Ogundeji for contributing to Asake’s development into a global music icon.

“I also express my sincere appreciation to Professor Toyin Ogundeji and Obafemi Awolowo University for nurturing one of the greatest musical icons of our time, a cultural ambassador who has carried Yoruba heritage onto the global stage,” he said.

Asake’s visit comes shortly after his return to Nigeria following two years abroad. The singer has also confirmed that he has relocated to Los Angeles, United States.
