The relentless efforts of the former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa to destabilise the State’s Legislative arm since his removal as Speaker have raised concerns among Lagosians. In the wake of persistent reports attempting to reinstate him as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, it is crucial for him to acknowledge the ground reality and refrain from exacerbating political tensions in the state.
Despite the denial of reports alleging President Bola Tinubu’s directive for his reinstatement, Obasa’s actions continue to generate tension. The scrupulous article, which nearly tore Lagosians apart on Monday has even been discovered to be not only a ruse, but a machination of the ousted Speaker to cause distraction in the state.
His alleged harassment of honourable members of the House with the Department of State Services (DSS) has also been widely condemned, and his behaviour has been described as “blinded by his ambition.” The time has come for Obasa to accept his removal in good faith and desist from heating up the polity!
From all indications, the leadership of the House remains unchanged under Speaker Rt Hon Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, with the backing of the majority members, and Obasa should respect this decision. His ambition should not be pursued at the expense of peace and stability in the state. Lagosians deserve better, and it’s time for Obasa to accept his removal and move on.
In fact, Obasa’s insistence on challenging the established leadership undermines the democratic process and threatens the stability and reputation of Lagos State. It’s imperative for him to prioritise the interests of the state over personal ambitions and work towards a harmonious transition.
By persisting in his divisive efforts, Obasa risks alienating his supporters and damaging his political legacy. The time has come for him to exhibit humility, accept reality, and support the current leadership for the greater good of Lagos and its people.
As the countdown to 2027 begins, Obasa would do well to remember that his actions will be remembered. It’s time for him to put the interests of Lagos State above his personal ambition and work towards peace and stability.
In the interest of political decorum, unity, and the well-being of Lagos State, Mudashiru Obasa must heed the calls to desist from heating up the polity. It’s time for him to embrace a new chapter with dignity, acknowledging that his tenure has come to an end and that the best course of action is to throw his weight behind the current leadership with no reservation!
