Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Monday, 13 July, 2026 formally announced Deputy Governor Murtala Garo as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, reports thegazellenews.com.
Yusuf made the declaration during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who confirmed the development through a statement issued on Monday, 13 July, 2026, the decision was based on Garo’s performance, loyalty, and commitment since assuming office.
Yusuf said he remained satisfied with his choice of Deputy Governor, expressing confidence in Garo’s ability to continue supporting the administration’s objectives.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him, ” the governor said, just he also commended Garo for his contributions to governance, saying his efforts had played a significant role in advancing the administration’s development agenda across Kano State.
“He has demonstrated competence, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility in the discharge of his duties,” Yusuf added.
Reaffirming his trust in the deputy governor, Yusuf described Garo as a reliable partner whose support has been instrumental in the implementation of key government policies and programmes.
Yusuf also urged party leaders, political appointees, and supporters to remain united and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We must remain focused and committed as we consolidate on our achievements and move forward together,” he said.
