A group within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Plateau State has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some individuals to prevent Hon. Jude Dakur from emerging as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The group, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Jonathan Bulus, on Thursday, alleged that certain individuals were determined to undermine Dakur’s candidacy and create confusion over the party’s nomination process.

Bulus said the group was particularly concerned about reports that some persons were moving around in an attempt to have the name of the party’s nominated candidate changed.

He said, “Some persons who are not even from Plateau State are hell-bent on going around trying to destroy the ADC in Plateau State. What is their interest? Why are they so determined to destroy the ADC in Plateau?”

According to him, any attempt to alter the valid nomination would undermine the integrity of the electoral process and should be rejected by all stakeholders committed to credible and transparent elections in Plateau State.

“We are concerned about the people going about trying to undermine the electoral process in Plateau State. Why are they so desperate to destroy the Plateau ADC?

“Jude Dakur won the primaries as more popular, and we are worried about the determination of some individuals to stop him from emerging as the governorship candidate.”

“If this is allowed to happen, it will undermine the electoral process, and we will vehemently reject any attempt to manipulate the nomination process,” he said.

The group alleged that certain individuals, including one Hashim Imam, had been going around allegedly canvassing for a change in the name of the party’s nominated candidate.

Bulus urged members of the public to rely on valid official documents and established nomination procedures rather than names circulating through unofficial channels.

He said the group had what it described as valid documents relating to the party’s nomination and would rely on such documents in pursuing its complaint through the appropriate channels.

“We have seen names in circulation which do not reflect the valid nomination from the party. ”

We therefore urge all stakeholders to be cautious and ensure that the electoral process is not manipulated by individuals pursuing personal interests,” Bulus said.

The group warned that any attempt to replace or alter the duly nominated candidate without following the provisions of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws would be resisted through legitimate democratic and legal means.

It called on ADC members in Plateau to remain calm, united and vigilant, stressing that the party must not be allowed to become a victim of internal manipulation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group also urged party leaders and stakeholders to resolve disagreements through established democratic mechanisms, insisting that the interest of the party and the people of Plateau should take precedence over individual ambitions.
