Ahead of the 2027 general election, leaders of the coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have commenced grassroots mobilisation across the country

The coalition’s interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, have returned to their respective states of Benue and Osun respectively to seek support and preach the gospel  of the party to the people and why it is the option to the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)

The mobilisation drive follows a strategic directive assigning each key coalition leader to coordinate outreach in their geo-political zones.

According to insiders, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar will lead activities in the North East; Mark will oversee the North Central; and former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, will coordinate efforts in the North West.

In the south, former Anambra Governor Peter Obi will lead the South East mobilisation,; while Aregbesola and former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi are expected to coordinate the South West and South South, respectively.

A source close to the coalition confirmed that the leaders “returned to touch base with their people and set the stage for proper political engagement across the country.”

“From what we saw at the unveiling, Nigerians are ready. The crowd was organic. This is what is now happening at the grassroots,” the source told Leadership.

Atiku met with ADC stakeholders from Gombe in Abuja on Friday, 4 July, 2025, while Aregbesola was received by supporters in Lagos as he proceeded to Osun State.

Speaking on the development, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the mobilisation is people-driven.

His words: “Our leaders have returned to their regions to mobilise and speak with the people.

“Our strength is not in guns or thugs. It is in the people. After two weeks, they will return to Abuja with their reports.”

Other coalition figures, including Maina Waziri in Yobe and Emeka Ihedioha in Imo, were also seen over the weekend rallying support in their states.

The ADC coalition was unveiled last Wednesday in Abuja, marking what many analysts see as the most formidable opposition realignment since the 2013 merger that gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Top opposition figures present at the launch included Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye, Dele Momodu, Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and Emeka Ihedioha.

The coalition is positioning itself as an alternative to the Tinubu administration, amid internal crises in both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party.
