On Monday, 19 January, 2026 President Bola Tinubu held a private meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the State House, Abuja, thus igniting speculation about the Governor’s political future and a possible switch from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Monday’s meeting follows earlier reports of the governor’s interactions with other APC-aligned figures in Abuja.

It was gathered that Yusuf arrived at the Villa shortly after 4 pm, dressed in his signature white agbada and red cap, a symbol closely associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement led by his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The Governor, it was also gathered, was escorted to the President’s office by Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the discussions, held behind closed doors, lasted several hours.

As at the time of publishing this report, no official statement emanated from the Presidency or the Governor’s office for the visit to the seat of power.
