A 45-year-old man, Julius Ochim, has reportedly been arrested in Sagamu, Ogun State, for allegedly having sexual relations with his daughter, resulting in two pregnancies and the birth of a child.
The alleged incestuous relationship reportedly began after Ochim’s wife died in 2009, with the man allegedly threatening his daughter with unspecified cultural consequences whenever she resisted his sexual demands.
The daughter reportedly became pregnant four years ago and later gave birth to a daughter, now three years old. Despite the birth, Ochim allegedly continued the sexual relationship until she became pregnant again.
The situation reportedly came to light after the daughter began seeing another man. Ochim allegedly became jealous and opposed her plans to marry, prompting the daughter to disclose the alleged abuse.
Her disclosure subsequently led to Ochim’s arrest.
The case has raised concerns over the alleged prolonged sexual abuse, the welfare of the children and the appropriate legal response to the allegations.
The circumstances surrounding the pregnancies, the welfare of the children and the full details of the alleged abuse are expected to be established through investigation.
Ochim’s reported arrest comes amid renewed concerns over sexual abuse within families, particularly cases involving coercion, threats and exploitation of vulnerable victims.
The alleged offences remain subject to investigation, and Ochim is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
