At least 12 passengers people died in a road accident on the night of Tuesday,3 December, 2024 in Yobe State.

The crash occurred along the Baimari-Geidam road, specifically at Km 20, Chelluri village, at around 10:00 pm.

The Yobe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the sad development.

Aqcording to Yilzoom, the accident involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, belonging to DAN Nene Construction Company, and a Sharon mini bus with registration number BAU124YF.

The mini-bus ran into the truck and caught fire, burning the 12 occupants beyond recognition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the immediate cause of the crash was road obstruction by the truck while excessive speed and overload by the driver of the Sharon minibus were the remote causes.

Yilzoom urged motorists to avoid night travels due to poor visibility, which is exacerbated by the current hazy Harmattan weather.

The FRSC has extended condolences to the bereaved families, with Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressing sympathy for the loss of life.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving practices, he said.
