Ogun State Police Command has disclosed that at least five persons lost their lives in an accident involving a Mercedes Benz jeep at Fatgbems bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on the night of Sunday, 19 January, 2025.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesman, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, 20 January, 2025, explained that the accident which occurred at about 11:30 p.m., was caused by reckless driving on the part of the driver of the Mercedes Benz.
“The accident occurred when the driver of the Mercedes Benz, going towards Mowe direction, suddenly lost control, hit the culvert, somersaulted and turned to the opposite direction.
“Three men and two women inside the vehicle were confirmed dead, while one person sustained injuries,” she said, explaining that the injured victim was taken to AZ Carezone Hospital, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Real Divine Hospital, Ibafo.
She said that family members of the victims had been contacted, just as she also advised motorists to always drive with caution.
