A University of Ilorin as a 200 level Mass Communication student, whose identity has been withheld, reportedly committed suicide at his residence in the Oke-odo area of Tanke, llorin, Kwara State capital.
The student, it was gathered ingested a poisonous substance last week while his roommate was attending lectures.

A suicide note found at the scene detailed his struggle with financial hardship, which he said had become unbearable.
A close friend, who did not want his named mentioned, said, “We returned to find a suicide note where he explained his struggles and decision to take the substance.”

The deceased, known for his academic excellence with a cumulative grade point average of 4.5, was reportedly sponsored by his widowed mother, a retired school teacher.
In a related incident, another Mass Communication student narrowly escaped death on Monday evening after attempting suicide on campus.
Passers-by reportedly found him with a rope around his neck in a nearby bush and quickly raised the alarm. He was rushed to the university’s medical centre for urgent care.
