Ayo Adebanjo, a leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, is dead, reports thegazellenews.com.
This medium learnt that the popular Yoruba leader died early Friday, 14 February, 2025 at his residence in Lekki, Lagos.

He was aged 96, thegazellenews.com reports further.
His death was confirmed by a statement from the family issued on Friday, 14 February, 2025.
A veteran politician and one of the staunch disciples of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Adebanjo was survived by his 94 years old wife, Christy; children, grand children and great grandchildren.
The statement from the family stated that a discussion is on with his relatives, associates.
“He died peacefully this morning, Friday, February 14, 2025, at his Lekki, Lagos Nigeria home at the age of 96,” the statement read.
Adebanjo, a distinguished lawyer, was former Organising Secretary of the Action Group, and a National Leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere.
“We will forever cherish his commitment to fighting for truth, equity, and justice. His belief and struggle for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was total, and this he fought for until he breathed his last breath,” the statement added.
The statement was signed on behalf of the family by Mrs Ayotunde Atteh (nee Ayo-Adebanjo), Mrs Adeola Azeez (nee Ayo-Adebanjo), and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.
