Friday, 10 October 2025, was a happy day for the physically challenged students of Ikeja High School located at Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State, as the school’s old students association (IHSOSA Class of ’85) refurbished and equipped a classroom for them to mark the 40th anniversary and reunion of the set, reports thegazellenews.com
Speaking at the well–attended ceremony, the Chairman of IHSOSA Class of ’85’85, Augustine Obafemi Ladipo, spoke on how the set embarked on the project, saying that the event was not just about looking back, it was also about looking ahead.
“To this end, we embarked on a project for refurbishing and equipping of classroom for the physically-challenged students. This includes tiling of the entire floor, aluminum works, welding (burglary proofs and iron gates furniture works), state of the art cabinet and painting. The classroom was equipped with 10 straight sewing machines, 2 whipping machines and three industrial wall fans
“As we celebrate our achievements, let us renew our commitment to the values that brought us this far. Let us continue to dream big, work hard and support one another as we move forward intonthe next chapter of our story,” Ladipo said.
While expressing his gratitude to the principal of the school the school, Mr Muraina Lasisi and members of staff for their unwavering support, Ladipo used the occasion to thank every member of the 40th Anniversary Planning Committee /Réunion Committee who have contributed in one way or the other to making the day possible.
IHSOSA Chairman also commended the Project Committee Chairperson, Deacon Sunday Ademuwagun for his unflinching support giving to him for ensuring everything went successful.
Oladipo, who equally expressed his appreciation to his vice, Mrs Oluyemisi Olaofe and other executives of IHSOSA 85 set for their efforts towards the development of their alma matter. He also thanked all members both home and in diaspora for their love for the association.
In his own address, Ademuwagun said the occasion was not just about unveiling ”a structure or initiative but it’s about celebrating the spirit of unity, gratitude, and giving back to the institution that shaped us into who we are today.”
According to Ademuwagun, the idea for the project emerged through a vision to create something that would not only serve current students of the school m presently but also stand as a lasting legacy of the set as their gratitude and love for the school.
He disclosed that the exco led by Ladipo moved as a team to visit the Principal to inquire on the project the set could embark on.
According to him, the Principal listed about three projects to the committee but emphasize that the refurbishment and equipping of the classroom for the physically-challenged students as top priority.
Ademuwagun added that through the collective efforts of the alumni, staff and well wishers, the committee members shared ideas and worked tirelessly to make the dream a reality.
“And here we are today, witnessing the fruit of that labour. This project is more than bricks, wood or paint-it is a symbol f what we can acieve when we come together as a community. It is a testament to the enduring bond we have with our alma matter and the love we hold for this place that gave us so much,
“Let this project serves as a reminder to all of us that giving back, in whatever way we can, is one of the greatest acts of gratitude. And let it inspire the current and future students to dream bigger, work harder, and always remember the importance of lifting others as they climb,” he said.
