Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside 19 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, confirmed this development in a Facebook post.

Although details remain sketchy, sources suggest they might be preparing to officially announce their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming days.
Governor Diri’s decision comes 24 hours after his Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, defected to the APC. The PDP has lost several Governors to the APC this year, leaving them with eight Governors.
Speculation is rife that Governor Diri might be considering a move to the APC, but he hasn’t officially confirmed his next move
The defection has sparked reactions, with political analysts believing it could further weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in the South-South region where the party once dominated.
