In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD) has distributed learning materials to over 50 girls at Baram Gada Primary School in Bauchi.

This was as the organisation stressed the need to preach the girl child education and welfare at the rural communities where most of the uneducated girls and out-of-school children are.
Addressing girls and teachers at the Baram Gada Primary School, on Tuesday, 14 October, 2025, the Executive Director of J4PD, Elizabeth Kahh said the gesture was part of the organisation’s effort to promote girl-child education and encourage parents to enroll their daughters in school.

She emphasized that girl-child education remains key to national development, and called on parents, communities, and stakeholders to create equal opportunities for girls to learn and thrive.
Elizabeth Kahh said that the group decided to carry out the campaign in commemoration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, pointing out that there are girls who have the potential to be doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers and other impacting professions but a large number are being denied access to education.
The Executive Director lamented that harmful traditional practices, gender based violence and child labour have been hindering many girls from reaching their potential. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our girls obtain basic education and have rights to learn and lead.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of the School Based Management Committee (SBMC), Mohammed Jibrin commended the J4PD for a thoughtful selection of the school for the sensitisation, saying that most of the international days are being held at the urban centres.
Jibrin pledged to mobilise and sensitise rural dwellers on girl child education and end harmful traditional practices that serve as cog on the development of the girls.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Baram Gada ta ƙasa, Alhaji Sa’idu Gambo, decried the poor state of the school, citing challenges such as lack of chairs, learning materials, water, electricity, and dilapidated classrooms as their major challenges in the area.

The Community Leader, who commended the group while soliciting for the government interventions on critical social issues, said that as community stakeholders, traditional leaders are encouraging parents to invest in the girls.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council Comrade Umar Sa’idu, represented by Nasiru Shuaibu, commended J4PD’s commitment to promoting the welfare of the girl child.
Also speaking, the Headmaster of Baram Gada Primary School, Muhammad Bello, appealed to parents to prioritize their children’s education by providing school uniforms and supporting teachers with adequate materials to enhance learning.
In their goodwill messages, Haruna Shuaibu Imam stressed the importance of education in shaping the future of young girls, while Muhammad Adam Jibrin, Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), pledged continued support for girl-child education in the community.
Also, Chairman the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) , Abdullahi Hayatu Sambo, expressed gratitude to J4PD for selecting Baram Gada Primary School, noting that the visit would serve as motivation for both pupils and parents.
