The commissioning of several community projects in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA was more than a ceremonial exercise, as it underscored the administration’s renewed commitment to accountability, inclusive governance and sustainable development within its first 100 days in office.

The Chairman, Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Seyi Jakande, stated this on Thursday, 18 December, 2025, during the official Commissioning of ground breaking projects held at Nusara-Ud-Deen School , Ayantuga.
According to him, “this project represents Council determination to respond practically to the pressing needs of residents across all wards”.
In his address, he noted that his administration introduced what he described as a first-of-its-kind stakeholders’ budget meeting at the LCDA level, held simultaneously in all wards, to deepen citizen participation in governance and ensure that community priorities are reflected in budgetary decisions.
Highlighting his achievements in the past 100 days within the health sector, the Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman revealed that a new health care centre has been constructed at Kayode while a fully equipped ambulance was procured to strengthen emergency response.
Also, he stated that 1000 residents’ benefited from free medical outreach, organised in partnership with Eko Club Atlanta, while another 1,000 residents are currently receiving free eye care services, including glasses and medication, through a collaboration with the Precious Sight Foundation UK.
According to him, the projects reflect the council’s determination to respond practically to the pressing needs of residents across all wards.
He noted further that his administration introduced what he described as a first-of-its-kind stakeholders’ budget meeting at the LCDA level, held simultaneously in all wards, to deepen citizen participation in governance and ensure that community priorities are reflected in budgetary decisions.
In education, Jakande said the council organised pre-GCE qualifying examinations for 1,000 students and sponsored GCE forms and registration for 250 indigent candidates. He further revealed that 60 youths were trained through a summer technology boot camp, while pupils in all public primary schools benefited from the “Back-to-school, Back-to-pocket” initiative, which provided free school bags, exercise books and stationery.

The council Chairman also listed improvements to the free school ride programme, sponsorship of a spelling bee competition, and the introduction of the “One Day Chairman” initiative aimed at promoting civic consciousness among young people.
Additionally, he announced bursary awards for 250 indigent tertiary students who have demonstrated strong academic performance.
On infrastructure, Jakande said boreholes were constructed and rehabilitated across all wards to improve access to potable water.
He added that road and drainage reconstruction works are ongoing in areas including Akala, Adedoja, Igbarere, Ashaoku, Damengoro–Shokunbi, Industrial Crescent, Oladipo Shonde and Ade Akinsanya streets.
According to him, the council also installed solar-powered streetlights and CCTV cameras to enhance security, procured a new generator to ensure uninterrupted council operations, and established solar charging stations managed by youths as kiosk administrators.
He further disclosed the formation of a joint security task force comprising police divisions, the OTEC team, vigilantes and hunters to tackle crime in the area.
In agriculture and community development, the chairman said the council sustained its discounted agricultural produce scheme and sponsored World Food Day 2025. He also noted that the council supported Isese Day celebrations as part of efforts to promote cultural heritage and peaceful coexistence.
On youth and sports development, Jakande announced the construction of a modern five-a-side football pitch, the implementation of a school feeding programme tagged “JAKO JOLLOF” across all primary schools, and the empowerment of 28 food vendors.
He said the Chairman’s Cup featured 50 teams and about 800 players across five categories, while the council also hosted the maiden Seyi Jakande Football Competition on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day.
He added that the council sponsored the DFA Women’s League and ensured the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the annual sports fiesta.
Jakande urged residents to take ownership of the projects and help maintain them, assuring that his administration remains committed to transparent procurement, regular audits and quality control.
