A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),
Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti has formally declared to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Bauchi State, citing overwhelming pressure from citizens, stakeholders, and supporters across the state.

Bala Wunti is a Nigerian oil and gas technocrat, and former Managing Director of NAPIMS and PPMC.

He is also a renowned philanthropist and respected public figure.

He disclosed this at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government party along Gombe Road on Friday, 3 April, 2026.

The declaration was made during a courtesy visit to the local government executives of the party following mounting pressure on him by Bauchi citizens and residents.

“I accepted the contest because of the pressure to rescue the future of Bauchi’s unemployed youth,” he said.

The formal declaration and presentation to the party at the grassroots have put an end to speculations in Bauchi State.

While addressing the crowd at the party secretariat, Bala Maijama’a Wunti explained that his decision to enter the race was not borne out of personal ambition, but rather a response to persistent appeals from the people of Bauchi State who have urged him to step forward and provide meaningful leadership.

Wunti reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged to run an inclusive government if elected in 2027, and vowed to ensure guarantees of equal rights for all citizens and prioritize sustainable development throughout the twenty local government areas of the state.

Wunti also used the occasion to congratulate the newly inaugurated leadership of the APC in Bauchi Local Government Area, expressing confidence in their capacity to strengthen the party and deliver on its mandate.

The Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Rt. Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Miya, introduced and presented the aspirant officially to the party leadership and explained that the visit aimed to familiarize Dr. Wunti with key stakeholders within the party structure.

The APC Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, described Maijama’a Wunti as a distinguished son of the local government area whose contributions to human capital development and mentorship have had far-reaching impact.

“Dr. Bala Wunti’s record speaks for itself. His mentorship has nurtured individuals who are today capable of holding the highest offices in the land, including the Office of Governor,” he stated.

He assured all aspirants of a level playing field and emphasized that Dr. Wunti’s track record remains an indelible and significant asset as the party prepares for a showdown in the 2027 elections.

This declaration has not only strengthened the party’s chances in the next gubernatorial election but also gathered momentum for progressive leadership in Bauchi State.
