Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to track down criminals who vandalised the Festac-Alakija Bridge, describing the act as barbaric and one the state would not tolerate.
The governor issued the directive in a statement released on Friday,7 August 2026, by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu said, adding that officials of the Office of Infrastructure had already visited the bridge to assess the damage.
According to the Governor, the assessment showed that the structural integrity of the bridge remained intact, though remedial work would be carried out immediately to protect the affected columns.
“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu warned that anyone found culpable in what he described as a horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident would face the full weight of the law, insisting that Lagos had no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against critical infrastructure and other public facilities.
The Governor consequently enjoined Lagosians to keep watch over public facilities in their communities, to help protect them against senseless attacks and further acts of vandalism.
