The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Lagos State Chapter, has unanimously adopted a new set of State Executive Council members, led by Comrade Ogunfowora Sunday Sewanu as President, following the reconciliation and merger of two previously rival factions within the union.
The adoption took place at the union’s 12th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference (SDC), held on Friday, 28 August 2026, and brought together NULGE branch chairmen, delegates from Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas across Lagos State, alongside national and state labour leaders.
The conference marked a significant milestone in the union’s journey towards unity, following the resolution of a longstanding rift between the Ajose Mandate Group and the NUG faction, which had since merged under the NULGE Great House.
The reconciliation produced a consensus arrangement and a unified leadership structure, removing the need for a contested election at the conference.
Addressing delegates, the NULGE President-General, Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, commended the Lagos State Government and the apex leader of the NULGE Great House for facilitating the reconciliation and resolving the dispute between the two factions.
He called the outcome a positive development for the union, stressing the importance of unity, cooperation and collective commitment to the welfare and progress of local government employees.
The first female President of NULGE in Lagos State, Comrade Regina Iyabode Obasa, also addressed the conference, congratulating the union on the successful resolution of its internal differences and urging members to sustain the spirit of unity and togetherness.
Also speaking, the apex leader of the NULGE Great House, who doubles as Chairman of Igando Ikotun Local Council Development Area, Snr. Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, highlighted the significance of the merger and urged members to move forward as one united body.
Following the addresses, the proposed candidates for the various executive positions were presented to delegates, who unanimously accepted and endorsed the list.
Alongside Ogunfowora as President, the newly adopted executives include Comrade Adewale Ojora as Deputy President, Comrade Adewale Olabisi Olatayo as Chairperson, and Comrade Lawal Oloruntoyin Sadiq as Public Relations Officer. Comrade Ogunbekun Afeez was endorsed as Treasurer, while Comrade Alagbe Abdulfatai, Comrade Rabiu Saka Alafia and Comrade Otutuloro Omosholabomi Udeze were adopted as Welfare Officers. Comrade Doyinsola Ajayi and Comrade Kayode Yusuf were endorsed as Auditors, Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa and Comrade Mayowa Morakinyo as Trustees, and Comrade Yusuf Iradat Abiodun as Young Workers’ Representative.
The conference drew prominent labour leaders, government representatives and NULGE officials from within and outside Lagos State.
Among those present were: Comrade Ismail Adejumo, PRO, NLC Lagos State, representing the Chairperson of the NLC Lagos State Council; Comrade Agnes Funmi Sessi; Comrade Ejalonibu Rasheed, Chairman, NUAAE, also representing the NLC Lagos State Council; Mrs Avoseh Senami Oluwakemi, Council Manager, Badagry Local Government; Comrade Jubril Olusegun of the Governor’s Great House; Comrade Huponu Olugbenga Ayinde, Secretary; Comrade Hakeem Olaleye, Emeritus Deputy President; Comrade C.K. Abimbola, Baba Party; Dr Benkola Lawal, SLG, Lekki; Comrade Balogun Dodo Lo So Pe, Lekki LCDA Supervisor for Works; and Comrade Sunday P.O.T. Balogun.
