Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade has revealed why he stopped attending church services more than a decade ago, saying restricting worship to a particular day limits his relationship with God.
The 66-year-old disclosed this during a recent interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, where he spoke about his faith, relationships and public perception.
He said he has not attended a church service in 13 years, stressing that the decision does not amount to abandoning his faith, as he believes his relationship with God should not be confined to Sundays or any specific day.
“God created me in His image. I stopped going to church 13 years ago because I was not finding it funny any longer. Though I am a child of God. My life is not orchestrated towards a particular day. There is no Sunday in the Bible. Without God, I will not be alive,” he said.
Solade maintained that his faith remains central to his life despite his absence from formal church services. “I know God too well. If you get close to me, you will know that God lives in me,” he said.
Turning to his personal relationships, he described himself as someone who avoids intimate friendships while staying connected with people generally.
“I do not have a friend. I do not roll with anybody, but I move with the world because God has instructed me to do that for myself,” he said, adding that although he is loved by many and reciprocates the affection, he deliberately avoids deep intimacy with others.
“I am loved by a lot of people, and I love a lot of people. But I do not have intimacy with people. It is good for me,” he said.
On public perception, Solade said the speculation surrounding his personality shows that he remains relevant.
“You will only speculate. You have heard things about me; most of them are not true. If I am not important, people will not talk about me,” he said.
The actor has enjoyed a decades-long career in the Nigerian film industry, featuring in numerous productions, and remains a recognisable figure in entertainment.
