The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Monday, 31 August, 2026 confirmed that ten members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, reports thegazellenes.com.
The DHQ, which confirmed the development through a statement on Monday, said the operation was conducted by joint security forces.
The victims were among 15 corps members kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
The kidnappers were reportedly demanding N20 million ransom from the families of some of the victims.
According to the DHQ, the operation is still ongoing, with security forces working to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
DHQ in the statement urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, while encouraging them to promptly report suspicious movements or information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the remaining victims and arresting those responsible for the abduction.
