Ogun 2027: Major Court Cases Against Yayi’s Candidacy Dropped

In a welcome and unprecedented manner as governorship campaigns begins, four major court cases instituted against Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, All Progressive Congress Governorship Candidate for Ogun State have been wholly discontinued by the litigants on their own, reports thegazellenews.com

Although no reasons were giving of the discontinuation of the litigations against the emergence of Senator Adeola as the APC Governorship candidate, it was gathered that the litigants were convinced of the merit of Senator Adeola candidacy and have decided to drop their cases and work for his eventual victory at the general election in February 2027.

The cases are Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26 instituted by Professor Awolola Awoniyi pursuant of Freedom of Information Act 2011 against the Senator, Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, All Progressives Congress, the Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector General of Police and Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26 instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of Booth Party, Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of Young Progressive Party, YPP, Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of Action Democratic Party, ADP, Mr. Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, a member of ADP and Mr. Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of Labour Party, LP, against the Senator, INEC and APC.

The other discontinued cases are Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26 instituted by some of the above party officials and members and others including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of African Democratic Party, ADP, Mr. Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, a member of Labour Party, LP and one Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun against the APC candidate, INEC, the Guardian Newspapers Limited and Inspector General of Police.

The case of Professor Awoniyi was discontinued on August 24, 2026 while the other cases were dropped on September 7th, 2026 in open court and the various defendants and their counsels duly informed through “Notices of Discontinuance” of the state of the matters.

Senator Adeola has since welcome the development and stated that he is more than ever focus on his delivery of dividends of democracy for Ogun State people and continue his mobilization for full campaign across the state in the days ahead for the general election.
