Veteran entertainer Charly Boy has defended his daughter following her engagement to a female partner, saying he cannot dictate how an adult woman chooses to live her life.

Charly Boy made his position known in a post on Instagram while responding to criticism over his daughter’s engagement.

He said his daughter, who is 50, was old enough to make her own decisions, stressing that his responsibility as a father was to offer advice and express his views rather than control her choices.

“How you wan tell 50-year-old woman how to live her life? At that age, she don already live enough life to know herself. As a father, I fit advise. I fit talk my mind. But I no get remote control for another adult’s life,” he wrote.

Charly Boy disclosed that his daughter had given him five grandchildren and a great-grandson, saying she would remain his daughter regardless of the choices she made.

He also revealed that she had experienced difficulties in her previous marriage and met her current partner after leaving the marriage.

According to him, he could not determine what would make his daughter happy, noting that even his own father could not stop him from becoming the person he wanted to be.

“She gave me five grandchildren and a great-grandson, and for that and many other reasons, she will always be my daughter. She was in a marriage where she saw pepper. Na after she commot dia, she jumped into dis one,” he said.

He added, “I no fit choose her happiness for her. My own father couldn’t stop me from becoming Charlyboy, the man I wanted to become.”

Charly Boy questioned why he should attempt to control his daughter’s life, given that she is an adult capable of making her own decisions.

“So who am I to stand in front of my daughter and try to control the life she has chosen for herself?” he asked.

He urged people to allow others to pursue happiness in their own way, saying he wished happiness for his daughter and everyone else.

“Everybody deserves the freedom to pursue their own happiness. I wish her happiness. I wish everybody happiness. At the end of the day, na love remains. Make everybody live their truth and find their own happiness,” he said.
