Three suspects, allegedly linked to the September 22, 2026, robbery and gruesome murder of a family of six at Oloba Village in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, have been arrested reports thegazellenews.com
The family, comprising one Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children, were allegedly attacked at about 7:00 pm on the fateful day by the suspects, said to have armed themselves with a locally-made dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, used in perpetrating the dastardly act.
Identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo, and Padonu Edward, all male residents of Oloba Village, allegedly invaded the residence of the victims and unleashed terror on them, first by dispossessing then of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.
”The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed of in the same river,” the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed in a statement.
Ayanlade further stated that the suspects’ arrest was sequel to credible intelligence received by the Command on October 2, 2026, at about 5:00 pm., following which detectives, acting on the information, commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the culprits.
In a follow-up investigation, detectives visited the scene and took photographs of the recovered exhibits – the Boxer motorcycle, belonging to the family, one locally-made dane gun, two cutlasses and the club used during the attack.
In their respective confessional statements, the suspects owned up to partaking in the heinous crime, the PPRO disclosed, adding that the lifeless body of the wife has since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the bodies of the remaining four victims from the river.
For further investigation and necessary legal action, the suspects and case file are about now to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has, however, directed a thorough investigation into the case, with a view to ensuring that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
