Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, has disbursed N200 million in cash empowerment to 2,000 women across the district while unveiling her legislative scorecard and constituency projects spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development.
The empowerment programme was held on Wednesday,19 August, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof Pavilion, Ikeja, during the second edition of the Lagos West Women’s Assembly and Cash Empowerment Programme, themed, “From Voice to Action: Empowering Women for Impact.”
Adebule said the initiative was designed to celebrate women’s resilience and leadership, strengthen families, support thriving communities and promote prosperity across Lagos West by empowering women engaged in micro and small-scale businesses.
She added that the programme was also part of her efforts to appreciate the electorate for their support, prayers, encouragement and confidence since her election to the Senate in 2023.
Welcoming the men who attended the women-focused programme, Adebule cited the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola’s popular saying that “nobody can clap with one hand”, expressing hope that the men present would also benefit from the empowerment initiative.
Giving an account of her stewardship, Adebule disclosed that she had sponsored 12 bills and co-sponsored six others since assuming office, bringing the total to 18 bills.
She said the bills focused on improving education, protecting children, strengthening the justice system, supporting the anti-corruption campaign, reforming land administration and promoting good governance.
The Senator also disclosed that she had moved motions of national importance, including one addressing the alarming number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
She, however, stressed that legislation alone did not define effective representation, noting that the true measure of representation was the positive impact of government interventions on the people.
On constituency projects, Adebule said interventions had continued across the 28 local governments and local council development areas that make up Lagos West Senatorial District.
She disclosed that communities across the district had benefited from solar-powered streetlights to improve night-time visibility, enhance neighbourhood security and support economic activities.
Seven communities, she added, had also benefited from the installation of step-down transformers to improve electricity supply.
On access to potable water, the senator said solar-powered mega boreholes had been provided at Markaz, Agege; Iba New Town; L.A. Primary School, Ishashi; Abattoir Market, Agege; New Road, Festac Extension; and Abesan Estate, Ipaja.
She said the facilities were designed to provide residents with free access to safe water.
Turning to education, Adebule described quality education and a conducive learning environment as essential to societal development.
She disclosed that modern classroom blocks had been completed and commissioned at State Primary School, Mafoluku, Oshodi, while a 36-classroom block at Awodi-Ora Primary School, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, had been completed and was ready for commissioning.
She added that six-classroom blocks had also been completed and were ready for commissioning at St. Michael Primary School, Ojo, and Oregun High School, Ikeja.
On human capital development, Adebule said a Skills Acquisition Centre at Odi-Olowo, Mushin, had been completed and commissioned.
She added that an ultra-modern Youth Development Centre at Ibereko, Badagry, comprising hostels, classrooms, a Community-Based Training Centre and a micro-stadium, was nearing completion.
According to her, the facility would serve as a hub for education, skills acquisition, sports and youth empowerment when completed.
Adebule also disclosed that a market comprising modern lock-up shops had been completed at Amikanle in Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA and was ready for commissioning.
She said the project would create opportunities for traders, strengthen small businesses and boost economic activities in the community.
On healthcare, Adebule said two healthcare centres had been embarked upon across the district.
She disclosed that a 40-bed healthcare centre at Ojokoro LCDA had been completed and was ready for commissioning, while construction of a 15-bed centre at Igbolobi, in the riverine area of Ojo Local Government Area, was ongoing.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the senator said thousands of constituents had benefited from various empowerment programmes over the past three years.
She listed cash grants, vocational training with starter packs, skills acquisition with tools, small business capital, food distribution as palliatives and fertiliser distribution for farmers among the interventions.
Others included first- and last-mile commercial vehicle empowerment to support transportation, barbing kits and generators, fashion design equipment and machines, beauty and make-up kits, and laptops for youth engagement.
Adebule said the initiatives deliberately prioritised women and young people, stressing that when women prosper, families prosper, communities grow and society becomes stronger.
Speaking on the N200 million cash empowerment, Adebule disclosed that N100 million of the fund was donated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, whom she described as the next governor of Ogun State.
She recalled that at a mega empowerment programme held in January 2026, Adeola had promised to provide some items, including small buses, in support of the initiative.
Adebule said she was pleased that Adeola had fulfilled the promise, although the support came in the form of a N100 million cash donation rather than the earlier promised items.
She urged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely, describing the money as seed capital for sustainable businesses that could create jobs, increase family income and contribute to the local economy.
The Senator assured those who did not benefit at the event that other opportunities would come their way, stressing that the empowerment programme was continuous.
Adebule also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom she described as her political father and mentor, for his leadership and commitment to national development.
She said Tinubu had demonstrated courage in implementing difficult but necessary reforms which, according to her, had repositioned Nigeria for greatness.
The senator consequently urged Nigerians of goodwill to support the President and re-elect him for a second term.
She also appreciated First Lady Oluremi Tinubu; Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; Princess Adebisi Sarah Sosan, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; and Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the state chairman of her party, for their support.
Adebule further appreciated the chairmen of the 28 local governments and local council development areas in Lagos West, party leaders, members of the Governance Advisory Council and women across the district for their loyalty and continued support.
Present at the event were: the Senator’s husband, Saheed Adebule; the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Lagos State, Princess Damilola Senayon James; Pastor Ojelabi; the Director General of PBAT/KOH Campaign Organisation in Lagos, Senator Obanikoro; Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire who was represented by Barrister Olugbenro; Princess Sosan, former Director General of the Adebule Campaign Organisation and ex-Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Honourable Rasaq Ajala; Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Honourable Ogunlewe; the Apex Leader for APC in Badagry Division and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Rabiu Oluwa among others.
