The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS, (ADSACA), Boniface Gundiri, has reported a decline in the prevalence of HIV in Adamawa State, with a drop to 1.1 percent from 2.5 percent in 2014.
Gundiri made the revelation during an event to mark this year’s World AIDS Day, on Tuesday,3 December, 2024.
“Today, we celebrate the drop in HIV prevalence in Adamawa State from 2.5 percent in 2014 to i.1 percent,” the ADSACA executive secretary said.
“The reduction of HIV prevalence in the state is a testament to impactful intervention against HIV/AIDS by implementing partners with support from the state Ministry of Health.
He urged the executive and legislative arms of the state government to enact and pass laws to protect the rights of those living with HIV to further ease access to care.
The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta while speaking at the event, said the government has procured 36,000 HIV/Syphilis test kits, 3,600 Hepatitis B and 3,600 Hepatitis C test kits to ensure coverage of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis testing towards ending HIV and other diseases in the state She called for the sustainability of the fight against HIV/AIDS across the country to keep with the United Nations declaration to end HIV by the year 2030.
