The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has expressed appreciation to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his condolence and solidarity visit to Benue State on Wednesday, 18 June, 2025.

Senator Akume noted that the visit by the President reflects his well known depth of leadership characterized by a connect to the ordinary people and empathy for them in all situations.

He pointed out to the fact that the President having had to take out time from other earlier scheduled commitments to make the visit, underscores his direct intervention in not just the Benue crisis but other ongoing conflicts across the country.

Senator Akume pledged his commitment to all the directives given by the President towards the attainment of peace and restoration of security to Benue State, with the most significant being the setting up of a Peace Building Committee.

“The SGF once again consoles victims of attacks in the state and expressed optimism that the President’s visit marks the beginning of better times ahead,” Akume said via a statement by Terrence Kuanum, his Special Adviser on Public Affairs
