The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has commissioned two key facilities at the commission’s Osun State office, the INEC Decides Studio and a BVAS Storage Facility, ahead of the Saturday 15, August 2026 governorship election in the state.
Amupitan commissioned the facilities during a visit to the state, where he also met with Electoral Officers from the 30 local government areas, in a move aimed at boosting election communication and safeguarding critical electoral technology.
The projects, initiated by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, were designed to provide a dedicated media centre for interviews and ensure the secure storage of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, devices.
Following the commissioning, Babalola and the Supervising National Commissioner for Osun State, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, assured Amupitan that the commission was fully prepared and determined to deliver a free, fair and conclusive election, pledging that staff would not disappoint Nigerians.
Addressing the electoral officers, Amupitan commended their resilience, reminding them that they were the commission’s frontline representatives whose conduct would shape public confidence in the election.
He stressed the need for early opening of polling units, warning that delays would attract consequences while exceptional performance would be rewarded.
He assured staff of the commission’s commitment to their welfare and to infrastructure development nationwide.
