According to him, the launching of the programme is an initiative that emphasizes the importance of recycling and the buy-back of plastic waste.

Jimoh stressed that the initiative is not merely about waste management, but about creating a circular economy where plastic is valued, reused, and reintegrated into the economic system rather than discarded.

The LCDA helmsman therefore urge every member of the community to actively participate in the buy-back program.

While highlighting the gains of the initiative, Jimoh emphasised that the involvement of the residents will not only contribute to a cleaner environment, but also provide economic opportunities for them.

” By participating, you can transform waste into wealth—an empowering prospect for families and individuals alike. This initiative is also deeply rooted in education and awareness. We have a responsibility to inform our community about the significance of recycling and how it can help mitigate the adverse effects of plastic waste.

“Today, we are not just advocates; we are educators. Together, we must spread the word and encourage others to join us in this vital mission. We will be organizing workshops, seminars, and educational campaigns to ensure that every resident understands the benefits and practices of effective waste management.”, he stressed.

He expressed gratitude to Seven Up Bottling Company for its unwavering commitment to the cause, highlighting that the partnership will enable the LCDA to leverage resources and expertise in a way that amplifies its impact.

Speaking at the occasion, the head of Sustainability Department of Seven Up Bottling Company, Mrs. Lovet Okoye emphasised that the initiative is meant to transform plastic waste for products.

She disclosed that the programme will be launched on 18th November, 2025 at Ijora Oloye, where plastic waste of all kinds will be purchased at the rate of N800 per kilogram.

Aside from ensuring a cleaner environment, Okoye hinted that the company is determined to ensure that the residents eke a living from the waste products.

“We are ensuring that the plastic waste do not end in the environment, but becomes what, a resource for another product.

“We want you to also earn something to get something for your plastic waste, because we don’t want it to become a pollutant to the environment”, she said.
