Wife of the Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alhaja Kikelomo Layeni-Jimoh, has launched a massive grassroots mobilization drive, calling on all women within the council area to urgently register for and collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She charged them to be active participants and not just mere followers, emphasising that politics is about decisions that affect “our children’s schools, our markets, our clinics, our roads, adding that it is women that feel the issues mostly.”
Pointing out that noise making would not achieve any result, Mrs. Jimoh stressed that it is knowledge, unity and courage that is required for them to attain leadership positions.
Layeni -Jimoh made the clarion call during the maiden edition of the monthly Women in Politics Stakeholders Forum, held Wednesday, 24th June at the Anago hall of the council secretariat.
She explained that the forum will serve as a consistent monthly platform to educate, inform, and strategically position women to achieve landmark success in the next general elections.
She further advised the participants to continually support and pray for their households, noting that stable families form the foundation of a progressive society.
“This gathering is not another meeting, It is a declaration. A declaration that the women of Apapa Iganmu will no longer watch politics from the sidelines. We are not just voters, we are leaders. We are not just voters, we are builders.Why “Women in Politics”?Because, politics is not about noise. It is about decisions that affect our children’s schools, our markets, our clinics, our roads. And who feels these things most? Women.
“This agenda, has opened the door. This monthly forum is the door. Here, we will learn, we will network; we will speak truth to power with respect. And we will prepare ourselves for elections, for appointments, and for leadership.To my fellow women: you don’t need to shout to be heard. You need knowledge, unity and courage”, the Apapa Iganmu LCDA chairperson stated.
The guest speaker at the occasion, Barrister Asiwaju Kemisola Oshodi, while making her presentation noted that women consistently hold the numerical advantage in the political arena and must leverage this strength at the ballot box.
Oshodi challenged the audience to evaluate governance by sustainable dividends of democracy—such as infrastructure and social amenities—rather than short-term financial inducements.
Lending his voice to the initiative, the Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu urged party faithful to remain steadfast and united behind the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Total civic readiness through PVC registration and active voting remains paramount to our collective success.
“Our triumph at the polls depends on our shared commitment today. We must work together to ensure that every resident is ready to exercise their democratic rights.” the council helmsman stated.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaiye, reminded the women of their indispensable role as the primary drivers of the party’s grassroots structures and upcoming electoral successes.
Otitonaye also led the assembly in solemn prayers for the safe return of all abducted children and victims of insecurity nationwide.
The landmark event concluded with interfaith prayers and a comprehensive vote of thanks delivered by the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. Rahmat Gbadamosi Ojora.
The event, had in attendance diverse stakeholders which included: the Iyaloja General of Apapa-Iganmu, Alhaja Abibat Arepo; alongside council supervisors, Special Assistants, women leaders, market women, representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the League of Imams, CDC/CDA executives, artisans, and enthusiastic female residents.
